Improved Hedge

We reused the boxwood hedge from the old practice tee area and put it near the caddie staging area.  The bushes there were thinned out from people stepping over them and from winter burn.  A nice improvement with no cost involved.

The Things We Do

With a busy spring ahead of us and a time sensitive project like the construction of the new practice green, have to get a head start so we can begin the project next week.  Back bladed all the snow off the area so it will be dry dried out so work can begin as soon as possible.  By next week some time if weather permits you should start to see what the new green will look like.

A "Quick" Project

What was supposed to be a quick drainage project on the 5th fairway turned into a nightmare as we encountered large rock after large rock only several inches below the fairway.  In some cases they were so big we had to go over them and in other cases we wound up making the trench 3x the size to get them out.  As long as we get it buttoned up today before the noreaster hits tonight and tomorrow.

Getting Ready to Open Again

A little roll to smooth out the surfaces followed by a little nutrient spray to help with plant health and the course will reopen again tomorrow.  Lets hope for no more snow or ice this winter.

New Chipper

After our old chipper required a significant amount of work, we decided to purchase this chipper from Downes Tree Service to help us continue to do tree work throughout the course.  Our old chipper did a great job for us and was at its life expectancy and we expect to get a lot more work done with this one.

Tough Conditions

After the snow yesterday followed by heavy rains and some frozen ground the golf course is literally a giant ice skating pond right now.  Hopefully warm weather is coming to thaw out everything and get the standing water off the turf.  The flash freezing is not good for the grass but luckily it is only been like this for 24 hours.

Out With the Old...

New equipment started getting delivered today as our John Deere equipment lease is about to expire in April and we are replacing our greens mowers and rough mowers with Toro equipment.  We will have these mowers for 5 years and then turn them in since they will be logging a lot of hours over the 5 years and technology will have changed as well.
